Loza Abera, the team's captain, has vowed to make history with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC (CBE) as they compete in the ongoing TotalEnergies Women's Champions League qualifying matches for the CECAFA Zone.
"We are pleased to have a strong start in this competition. I'm also pleased with my five goals in the first game, and as captain, I'm convinced that we can make history by having me lead the team in goals once more and advancing to the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League.
Abera who was also the top scorer in the Zonal qualifiers held in Kenya last year made it clear that they are much more focused and hungry as a team to perform well and qualify for the bug stage at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
“We lost in the final last year and now we are much prepared and better experienced to put up a good show to rewrite history,” added Abera.
CBE who top the log in Group A will next face Burundi’s FOFILA PF on Thursday in a match they will be all out to try and win to qualify early for the semi final stage. “We are determined to win all our Group matches before we concentrate on the knockout stage,” added Abera.
On the opening day on Sunday Uganda’s She Corporate defeated Yei Joint Stars 6-0, while Simba Queens (Tanzania) also picked a similar 6-0 victory against Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine FC (GRFC) in Group B matches played on Sunday.
Besides CBE registering a huge win on Monday, Rwanda’s AS Kigali WFC also battled from a goal down to stop FOFILA PF 2-1 in the second match played at the Azam Complex in Chamazi. Fatuma Kankidi gave FOFILA PF an early lead before Zawadi Usanase netted in each half to ensure AS Kigali WFC picked maximum points.
Action returns on Wednesday with Simba Queens FC facing She Corporate, while Yei Joint Stars take on GRFC in Group B encounters.
