Arsenal are said to have offered young full-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy a new contract with the club, one which he is expected to accept
Arsenal has offered young right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy a new contract, according to recent reports.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional deal last year, which is due to expire in the summer of 2023 and has since been sent on loan to League One side Lincoln City.
Now, The Athletic has reported that the Gunners have offered the youngster a new long-term contract, one which the player is expected to accept.
Norton-Cuffy has enjoyed some excellent displays with The Imps in recent weeks, showcasing his impressive physicality and dribbling ability, with head coach Michael Appleton wowed by the teenager's display against Doncaster Rovers last month.
“I thought Brooke Norton-Cuffy was outstanding,” said Appleton after the full-time whistle.
“We’ve seen a glimpse of what he’s capable of. His attacking play is a big part of his game.
“He was a little bit nervous initially, but it was his first league start. He came through that and got stronger and stronger.”
Japan international right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu has enjoyed a productive debut campaign with Arsenal this season and football. London understands that both Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are set to leave the club permanently this summer, meaning there is a clear pathway to the first team for Norton-Cuffy.
Bellerin is currently plying his trade on loan with La Liga side Real Betis, whilst Maitland-Niles joined Jose Mourinho's AS Roma temporarily during the January transfer window.
Similarly, versatile defender Calum Chambers, who was occasionally utilized as a full-back during his time in north London, left for Aston Villa during the winter window, leaving Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares as the only recognized right-backs at the Emirates Stadium.
