While Brentford put Chelsea under pressure sporadically during their meeting at Stamford Bridge they were ultimately unable to emerge with anything tangible to show for their effort.
A victory would have put the Bees within touching distance of a top-four place.
However, Thomas Frank's side rarely looked capable of taking all three points and continued their dismal run on the road with their seventh defeat from eight matches.
No side Premier League side this term has earned less points on their travels than Brentford with only Southampton (four) and Everton (five) having scored fewer goals.
At times those statistics were perfectly underlined by their lack of conviction in the final third.
Both Christian Norgaard and Fabio Carvalho ought to have converted excellent opportunities to score when the Bees were only trailing by a single goal, with Bryan Mbeumo's effort simply proving too little, too late.
