Harry Kane hints at Tottenham Hotspur stay under Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has hinted that he would be prepared to stay at the club so long as Antonio Conte is in charge.

The England captain will celebrate his 29th birthday in July but is still waiting for his first major trophy in Tottenham colours, leading to the expectation of a summer exit last year.

Kane tried and failed to force a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Daniel Levy refusing to budge on his £150m asking price for the striker.

Kane struggled to find his shooting boots in the first half of the season following his transfer saga but has since recovered to net 26 times and provide nine assists in 49 games in all tournaments, including 16 goals in the Premier League.

Speculation surrounding Kane's future has quietened since the arrival of Premier League and Serie A-winning coach Conte, especially with Manchester City also confirmed to be signing Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United prioritising other targets.

While Conte has kept his cards close to his chest regarding his Tottenham future, Kane is hopeful that he can continue to work with the Italian in North London beyond the end of the season.

"There is still a lot of work to do. I think the improvement has definitely been there since the gaffer came in to where we are now," Kane told the Evening Standard.

"It shows it can be done in a short space of time, but obviously we will see what happens over the summer and look forward to the next season with a great manager. Hopefully we've learnt a lot since he's been here.

"I have no idea [about Conte's future] to be honest, that is his decision. But he has worked really hard while he has been here, he's a great guy, a really passionate man so whatever his decision is you have to respect it. But for sure I am enjoying it and I know the boys are enjoying working with him.

"I have said I am a big fan of his and we get on really well so of course it would be great for the club if he stays. But like I have said that is his decision, he's his own man, and I'm sure he will talk to the club and decide on his future. From our point of view we are all enjoying working with him.

"We had some good times with Jose [Mourinho], we were top of the league for the first few months of the season, we have had spells where we were really good but it is about doing that on a consistent basis over a whole season in all competitions, and not just in the Premier League.

"That is where we have got to get better and learn from and for sure the last few months have been a big improvement."

Kane struck his 16th goal of the Premier League season from the penalty spot in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Burnley after netting twice in the 3-0 North London derby success over Arsenal.

The England skipper has now made 385 appearances in all competitions for the capital side, scoring 247 goals and setting up 58 more in the process.

Kane's game-winning spot kick against the Clarets has temporarily lifted Spurs two points above Arsenal into the top four of the Premier League table before the Gunners take on Newcastle United on Monday night.

Conte's side will travel to basement side Norwich City for their final game of the Premier League season on Sunday, while Arsenal will battle relegation-threatened Everton at the Emirates.

Kane's contract at Tottenham still has another two years left to run, while Conte's deal is due to expire at the end of next season.
