Joshua bemoans a second loss to Usyk because he should have won.
After Oleksandr Usyk rallied to defend his heavyweight world titles in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, Anthony Joshua lamented his second defeat at the hands of the Ukrainian.
After failing to hand Usyk his first professional defeat, Joshua flung two of his belts on the floor and rushed out of the ring in a rage.
The British fighter sensed victory when Usyk was still in the fight in the eighth round.
The nimble southpaw fired back, though, and dominated the finish to win by a split decision.
Usyk maintains the IBF, WBA, and WBO championships and will now look to challenge WBC champion Tyson for the three titles, leaving Joshua to try to rebuild his career after suffering his third defeat.
“I should have won,” Joshua lamented. “I adapted, I made the change that I needed to give him more of a competitor. It wasn’t enough but I left everything in the gym.”
