Lewis Hamilton will serve a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix as he continues his title battle with rival Max Verstappen.

The seven-time world champion will now take on a new engine – his fourth of the year, one more than is permitted.

Hamilton will start well behind his rival in Turkey.

However, Hamilton will avoid starting from the back as he is changing only the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and not a full power unit like Verstappen.

He will hope to come through the field like the Red Bull ace did at the last race in Russia, where the Dutchman served his grid penalty for taking on the fourth engine and still finished second.

The Mercedes superstar leads Verstappen by two points with seven races of a fiercely contested season to go.

Hamilton isn't the only one taking a penalty with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz starting Sunday’s race from the rear with a new power unit.

Hamilton’s Mercedes will need to battle past the leading pack if he is to win on Sunday

Verstappen knows he has a great chance to beat Hamilton this weekend

Hamilton’s bid to win the race in Turkey, despite the sanctions against him, has already been boosted.

The 36-year-old finished fastest in first practice for the race and was four-tenths clear of Verstappen.

Charles Leclerc took third for Ferrari, one spot ahead of Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.
