Manchester City is reportedly eyeing a shock move for Mohamed Salah, who is facing an uncertain future at Liverpool.
According to an exclusive report from El Nacional, Manchester City is keeping an eye on the situation of Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool winger has been identified as a potential target for the reigning English champions, as he continues to face an uncertain future at Anfield.
Salah’s current contract in Merseyside expires in 2023, but Liverpool has appeared reluctant to meet the winger’s €30 million per season demands. It has put Manchester City on red alert, with the reigning Premier League champions poised to table an offer of around €75 million to secure the services of the Egyptian international next summer.
Salah has been the talk of the town in the Premier League this season, having started the season exceptionally well. In just eight matches, the attacker has netted seven goals while providing four assists, becoming the central figure to Liverpool’s second-place status in the league at the moment.
The former Chelsea forward has been performing in the UEFA Champions League as well, notably scoring a brace in the win over FC Porto while netting against Milan as well. His consistent form at the highest level of football has attracted the interest of Manchester City, who could be in for a bit of an attacking overhaul.
Salah will be hoping to bounce back strongly.
One of Manchester City’s top attackers in Raheem Sterling is already being tipped for a January exit, with Real Madrid being the latest club to express interest in the former Liverpool forward’s services.
In addition to Sterling, Bernardo Silva could also be on his way out of the Etihad, with Barcelona prepared to snap him up. The potential departures of these two attackers could open up the space for Manchester City to land yet another top forward next season.
Salah fits the bill perfectly due to his pedigree at the highest level of football. The Egyptian international could be an upgrade over Sterling while potentially becoming the answer to Manchester City’s goalscoring problems.
However, the possibility of his move to the Etihad remains unlikely as such moves in the Premier League are quite rare and would require the City to splash a fortune. Moreover, there has been pressure on Liverpool to extend the contract of Salah, and it won’t be surprising to see the Reds doing so, especially if the winger continues to maintain his fiery form throughout the remainder of the campaign.
