At least one Manchester United player reportedly told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he is the ‘issue’ after their 5-0 drubbing by Liverpool on Sunday.

That humiliating result at home to their arch-rivals means the Red Devils have now only taken one point from their last four matches in the Premier League.

United were poor throughout as Mohamed Salah hit a hat-trick, with goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota adding to the embarrassment for Solskjaer and his players.

Solskjaer said the defeat saw United hit “rock bottom” but believes he is the right man to continue at the helm.

There are already rumours that he could be replaced before their next match against Tottenham in the Premier League with Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane among the names linked.

And now The Athletic write that Solskjaer’s speech in the dressing room after their match against Liverpool was badly received by some of his players.

The Athletic claim:

‘Solskjaer asked his team for their thoughts on the issues causing United to leak chances week after week. More than one concluded that the answer was the man posing the question.

‘Recriminations abound when sides are on the slide, but the sense that Solskjaer is not the manager to lead United on has taken hold for a section of his squad over the past month. They admire his manner, his commitment, and public protection but doubts are growing about his sophistication to challenge Pep Guardiola, Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp.’

Meanwhile, former Man Utd goalkeeper Mark Bosnich insisted the result against Liverpool was “devastating” for the Red Devils.

“It was a disaster. There is no other word for it,” Bosnich told Sky Sports News. “It was devastating. There was a time during the first half that it was ugly but I thought it was going to get to six, seven or eight.

“If this continues there is no other choice for the board – we don’t know whether Manchester United have already approached people about the possibility of taking over.

“There are three tough games coming up – Tottenham away, Atalanta and then Manchester City before the international break. If they lose those three games, which right now is a massive possibility, I don’t really see there being any other choice.”
