Manchester City has been told to test Liverpool’s resolve with a bid for Mohamed Salah with the Egyptian dubbed the perfect signing for Pep Guardiola.
Salah delivered a masterclass on Sunday as he set up a goal and scored a sensational solo effort in a thrilling 2-2 draw between the two title contenders at Anfield.
Salah netted his 101st Premier League goal at the weekend.
It means the 29-year-old has nine goals in nine appearances for the Reds this term, with six coming in the Premier League as he sits level with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy at the top of the top-flight scoring charts.
Salah, however, is stalling on signing a new deal at the club with his current deal set to expire next summer, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.
And talkSPORT co-host Adrian Durham reckons City should go all out for Salah, claiming Liverpool’s owners may be tempted if a big offer comes in.
“Mo Salah’s contract situation is very interesting, Liverpool fans are very keen for them to tie him up,” he told Drive.
Many believe Salah is currently the world’s best on form
“I’ll tell you what Manchester City should do: go and sign Mo Salah.
“They should put in a bid to the owners of Liverpool that they wouldn’t be able to refuse.
“Fans wouldn’t like it but that’s exactly the player Pep Guardiola and Man City need.
“They should go and get him. It might be a difficult one to get over the line but the owners might go for the money that City offers.
“They’re not massive Liverpool fans from way back, they’re thinking about money and running a business.”
He added: “Imagine you own Liverpool. They buy well and sell well.
Salah could be the perfect signing for Pep at City
“They run within their means, not owned by a country and do business very, very well.
“If they get a player who’s 29, 30, and whose contract is due to run out in 2023, this is going to be his last mega-contract.
“Are Liverpool going to give a mega-contract of four, five years, the kind of contract another club would give?
“If Man City comes in and says we’ll give you £75m or even £100m for Salah right now, that’s a massive business decision that Liverpool has to make.
“I don’t think it’s delusional that that could happen.”
Salah is currently on a run of scoring in seven successive matches, having found the net in eight of his nine appearances this season, with only Burnley keeping him out.
