Taking a trip back to the 1988-’90 football seasons, Manchester United reveals its new adidas Originals collection that exudes nostalgia in every retro piece.

The commemorative range takes cues from the on-pitch uniforms, benchside garments and terrace fits adorned during the club’s away days. Dressed in the iconic tones of red, blue and black, the collection comprises of hoodies, T-shirts, a bench jacket and the hero product – a Third jersey.

Expected to be a highly sought-after piece, the classic jersey features a bold blue fabric woven with a MUFU pattern running through the stripes, directly referencing the 1988 Manchester United kit. Keeping details true to the original, the club sponsor, adidas trefoil and club crest are appliquéd onto the chest section in soft textured material. The ribbed collar shirt arrives with matching shorts that can also be paired with the “Old Trafford” titled T-shirts and hoodies.

In an effort to incorporate more contemporary design codes, adidas Originals reimagines coach Alex Ferguson’s iconic bench jacket, making it a true statement piece. Across the straight-cut silhouette and elongated funnel neck, a black and red color blocking is carefully composed to frame the stamped adidas Trefoil on the back panel.

Paying homage to the season that the collection takes inspiration from, adidas Originals and Manchester United are also releasing a new campaign that brings the joyful spirit of the era alive once again. The accompanying “This Kind of Love” video calls on club veteran’s Denis Irwin, Lee Sharpe and Albert Morgan in a heartfelt tribute to their supporters, while Ferguson also makes an appearance as he waves off the fan bus emblazoned with “Always on Time – Fergie Time.”
