According to an online user Vivek Vidyadharan Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini is the most unlucky footballer…His opinion though…see reasons below :

He’s on the top of the world. I accept. Records after records. Goals after goals. Trophies after trophies. He has done things football-ing world considered impossible. But as a player do you think he is happy? I dont’ think so.

Apart from all the things he has won, imagine what all things he could’ve won and the things he lost.

2005 Debut with Argentina

Even though he won the U20 World Cup, which is often forgotten in the new world of UEFA nations league being a major international trophy and the U20 world cup is just friendlies, the debut of the Magical Messi was not so magical. Subbed at 63rd minute, he was sent off after two minutes. An unfair red card. And there started the unfairness to him by the footballing God’s, if any of them exists.

2006 World Cup

I am not saying he had the best chance of winning it, but if the 19 year old Mbappe won it with the present France team, then the then 19 year old Messi had a better chance to win it. Benching him for the decisive penalty shoot out against Germany where Argentina lost and his first world cup dream ended there. That time it was his Manager’s decision to bench the player who helped the team to get past the round of 16. The 2006 world cup dream- Over.

2007 Copa America

Named the best player of the tournament, but he lost the final against a Brazil Squad that wasn’t at their best. Messi did not receive much of the criticism even though he had an impact to help secure La Albiceleste a place in the finals.
Second chance to win a major international trophy with his home country.

2010 world cup

Under the decorated old player and world cup champion, Diego Maradona, the Argentina FA suffered a lot. Hardly qualifying to the world cup to receiving all the hate because Messi failed to deliver and not the team as a whole. Messi started getting all the hate because he was the wonderkid and the fans wanted him to do extraordinary every day-every time. And not so surprisingly, mighty Spain or the Barcelona’s national team were crowned as the champions. It is a known fact that Messi was invited to play for the then champions several times, but Messi chose to stay with his home country and win them everything possible. But, fate had another plans for him.

After couple of years, the world champions won the Euro in the same fashion as the world cup, while Messi won 4 Ballan ‘dor’s in a row for his performance with the Blaugranas and not with the National team to be exact. The then Spain were already deadly with the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Pique, Puyol and Ramos, imagine what it would be like with Messi along with them. Woah!

2014 World Cup

What we saw there was a man fighting at his best for his desire to win the most anticipated trophy for his home country. We know what happened at the end. Despite having a best tournament in the history of world cup, Messi ended up being the most hated by his own fans and well wishers. The reason is what confuses me, people expects him to do wonders every day-every time. He is not supposed to have a bad day or a bad match. If he plays, the game has to be won. Doesn’t matter if the team is not playing well, not giving him enough ball or waste the chances he created, it. doesn’t. matter.

The then Fifa Vice President told the media recently that Messi was devastated. Winning the world cup golden ball with a record number of goals, he was muttering to himself that “I am the best, but not the champion”. Imagine the heart break.

2015–2016 Copa Americas and the 2018 World Cup.

Again, having the best of the best campaigns both times, when he failed to deliver, the whole team sunk. The retirement and the come back. The people in Argentina pleaded him to come back and he did. Just to help them qualify for the World Cup of 2018. He single handedly made the La Albiceleste qualify for the 2018 world cup. But the campaign, rough start. No goals. Fought till the end against the current champions France to have a place in the campaign. Again fate! After doing all these favours/duties to his team, what did he get in return?
“Fake retirement” “Coward” “Not a big game player” “Doesn’t play for country” “Tax fraud” “Cheater”
Too much hate and criticism for all the good things he did for them, because his rival, Ronaldo, won the Euro 2016 with a mediocre Portugal team.

UCL Campaign and Ballan ‘dor 2016–2018

Even though Messi fails to deliver with his national team, he usually never fails to deliver in Blaugrana. But the back to back crashing out of UCL campaigns by the mighty Barcelona costed him the hate of his fans and 3 Ballan ‘dors. His numbers were magical in all these three seasons, but his fans, his haters and everyone else remember the things he couldn’t do. No one has been consistent in all these three years and hell, even in the last 10 years and having those kind of individual stats, the 5th place nomination in the 2018 Ballan ‘dor was the most unluckiest and disrespectful gesture according to me.

UCL 2018–19 and the Copa America 2019

Assuming the captaincy of the Blaugrana’s he promised he will do everything possible to bring the most desired trophy back to the Camp Nou and he did to be frank. What started with a hope to win the historic treble again, everything fell apart in the last two weeks of the season. Defeat against Liverpool and Valenica, Messi’s first season as captain ended with just the League title. But did he do everything as he promised? Yes he did. Top scorer in La Liga and in the UCL, most assists, chances created, most MOTM’s and everything. Be it the incredible free kick against Liverpool or creating 4 chances at the Ainfiled, he did everything possible. What does he get in return, booing by his own fans in the Airport. Disgusting.

When the team losses, it is Messi’s fault but for every personal achievements he had, be it the Ballan ‘dor or the golden shoes, it is because of Xavi/Iniesta/other team mates. I accept, Barcelona had a great impact on him but we can’t say for sure that he’ll be a failure at any other club. But people have the audacity to say that too. Seems like he is “afraid to move out from Barcelona!” “One man club” “Can’t play in any other leagues” I mean WOW!! But why all this hate and disrespect, Ronaldo decided to move to Juventus from Real and he played with Manchester United too.

There was a time when there were strong rumors linking Messi with Manchester City and despite being a Cule myself, I wished he moved on. Not to prove anyone that he can, but to just to get out of all the hatred and disrespect. Imagine the reaction of some other club if Messi decides to play for them. Even after offering him double the salary than what he gets (While him being the most paid footballer in the world), Messi turned down the offer just because he remembers how Barcelona helped him while no one else did and he wanted to stay there as long as he can to repay them. No disrespect to Totti, but when he ended his career with Roma, he is a legend but when Messi decides to do the same, he is a “coward” and “one club man”. People. SMH.

Copa 2019 was no better for him either, just scoring a penalty and playing against a corrupt CONMEBOL, who decided to do everything to help the hosts win, he spoke up. What did he get back? An unfair red card. The second of his career, just like the first one, an undeserved red card. He could’ve ended his career after 20 years without any reds, but he got two and both undeserving and both with his national team. See the irony, don’t you. If it wasn’t for Brazil, I believe he could’ve lifted the major trophy with his national team. Again he is hated more, because why, he did not play well and Ronaldo won the nations league. People even had the courage to name the Nations league a major international trophy. *slow claps*.

I don’t hate Ronaldo, I love him as a player. I hate him when his fan boys start comparing him to Messi. They are incomparable as players and as individuals Messi has the lead. If I start putting out facts, people will come at me with fake retirement, not a team leader, 5 UCL, three different teams, Choker, 2 National trophies. I mean what should I tell them? You tell me.

Many of you may not agree with me, but if it wasn’t for media who made profit on anything and everything, this Messi-Ronaldo debate would’ve never existed. People forget one thing. Football is a team game. Doesn’t mater if you score 1000 goals, if your team mates are not good, the opposition can score 2000. Ronaldo has stepped up and saved the day many times and he is celebrated for that. He is an outspoken, a real bad ass and has the urge to show the world that he is the best and he can do everything. Messi on the other hand is the opposite. I don’t know whether you have noticed, if his team looses a match, he will be the one to walk out of the pitch at last. He doesn’t run back to the dressing room, no tantrums, no unnecessary or necessary show off, I don’t know. I just love the guy. I mean he doesn’t give out any reason to hate him except for the fact that he may have torn your favorite team apart.

For the player he is, for the human he is, I think he is underrated.

He deserves more love, he deserves more respect and moreover that football deserves him.
