Barcelona believe they should be able to make a bid for Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling in the January transfer window.

Barça's financial woes have been highly publicised in recent months, and these struggles eventually led to Lionel Messi's seismic departure to Paris Saint-Germain. Due to heavily reduced revenue, the club's La Liga salary cap has been cut to only €97m, a fraction of what it used to be.

But La Blaugrana reckon they should have enough money to operate in the January transfer window and are looking to reinforce their forward options - with Sterling among their top targets, according to local publication Mundo Deportivo.

Messi and Antoine Griezmann both left Barcelona in the summer, while Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite and new signing Sergio Aguero have all missed games through injury this season. Memphis Depay - who signed on a free transfer earlier this year - has been their only consistent figure in the attacking third of the pitch.

Luuk de Jong also signed from Sevilla late in August, but Barcelona are keen to bolster their options at the earliest opportunity. Sterling was on their shortlist in the summer, and they will reignite their interest in him this winter.
