According to sources, Abdoulaye Cissé, the director of competitions for the zonal authority, announced that the U15 Boys' Championship would also be held in Liberia's capital city at the same time.
"We've made the decision to organize the U15 tournament and the Women's Champions League qualifying round here in Liberia. It is a means to pique everyone's interest by having tournaments held in each of the zone's member nations, according to Cisse, who noted that competitions in the zone had previously been held in Senegal, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
On Wednesday, the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League 2022 qualification tournament will get underway with the host team Determine Girls taking on the reigning champions AS Mandé of Mali.
Apart from the two teams mentioned above, Senegalese side US Parcelles Assainies are expected to arrive in Monrovia on Wednesday.
“In addition to the local team of Liberia, the teams from Mauritania and Senegal will be present -Sierra Leone is expected in the next few hours,” he said, stressing that the Organizing Committee is hoping for the arrival of clubs from Gambia and Cape Verde.
”We expect that these competitions will allow our players to increase their volume of play, to cement the bonds of solidarity and cooperation between the member countries of the zone, its leaders and the players,” he pointed out.
After Wednesday’s opening match of the Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament, Thursday will be devoted to U15 boys’ competition.
Cissé, who is currently in Monrovia, revealed that six national teams have confirmed their participation for the tournament for boys.
“These tournaments should also allow our future representatives in continental competitions to prepare well to shine,” Cissé revealed.
There will be competitions to be held in Mauritania and Cape Verde in order to help the countries host major competitions in future.
“The objective is that each of the nine member countries of Wafu Zone A should be able to host one competition per year to consolidate the gains we have made,” Cisse concluded.
The regional body has nine members including Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau , Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal.
