Thomas Tuchel told he may have discovered Chelsea's new John Terry after training incident.

Xavier Mbuyamba joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 from Barcelona and created plenty of excitement.

The Dutch defender has already been dubbed the 'next Virgil van Dijk' due to his quality and physique but had a difficult debut season in London.

The young star injured his meniscus in just his second training session and missed the bulk of 2020/21.

The 19-year-old has regularly featured for Chelsea's Development Squad this term, however, and has participated in training with Thomas Tuchel's squad a number of times too.

Mbuyamba has featured at Cobham ahead of the Carabao Cup fixture with Aston Villa, and Tuchel has admitted he will be rotating his team.

"If the question is if we will have some changes, yes we will have," he said.

"I will not give you the line-up but there will be some changes because we take the opportunity to give important minutes and important competition to guys who have been missing the minutes at the moment."

The German coach's comments seem to suggest it will be the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell taking to the pitch - but could there be some room on the Stamford Bridge bench?

The Blues youngster has been pictured alongside the likes of Romelu Lukaku in Chelsea training and clearly enjoyed the experience.

The former Barcelona defender said: "Never had a lot, this is all I need."

It's safe to say, some Blues fans are hoping he is rewarded with more this evening and makes the Chelsea squad for the cup clash.

Chelsea face Aston Villa on Wednesday evening and there is no development fixture until Friday, when Chelsea take on Liverpool at Kingsmeadow.

Given the depth at Tuchel's disposal, it is often difficult to see youngsters breaking into Chelsea's squad with successes at the forefront of everyone's mind.

The Carabao Cup could offer the likes Mbuyamba the opportunity to travel, however, with matches against Manchester City and Juventus in the offing meaning key first-team players will need to be rested.
