Chelsea were beaten for the first time this season on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, and Thomas Tuchel has been told what to change to challenge for the Premier League

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has delivered a scathing review of Chelsea's display against Manchester City on Saturday, particularly singling out manager Thomas Tuchel.

City beat the Blues 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, bringing about their first defeat of the season. However, it was a scoreline that arguably flattered the home side with Pep Guardiola's side on top throughout the contest.

Chelsea simply could not contend with the high press of their opponents and Collymore has called the defensive approach of Tuchel into question, claiming that had it been a Jose Mourinho side, he would have been slaughtered for the tactical decision.

The Blues have the chance to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Italy to face Juventus in the Champions League. It may be their main hope of winning silverware this season as well, according to Collymore.

"Chelsea gave Manchester City way too much respect instead of dominating them physically, being adventurous and taking the game to them as they did in the Champions League final," the former marksman wrote in the Mirror.

"And had Jose Mourinho put out that Chelsea side - or any other such talented team - to defend as deeply as Thomas Tuchel did, then he’d have rightly been slaughtered.

"As Tuchel has been seemingly touched by the sword of invincibility, however, what was essentially a park-the-bus, reactive and negative first half in particular was passed off by some as tactical genius.

"It wasn’t and Chelsea can’t make that mistake again if they want to be champions."

Despite the defeat, the west Londoners still sit in third place, level on points with City and just one point behind table-toppers Liverpool with six games played.

Following Juventus, Chelsea have a generous run of fixtures with matches against Southampton, Brentford, Norwich and Malmo coming up.
