Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer and head coach Erik ten Hag have contradictory views on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is open to letting Ronaldo leave the club before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, while Glazer wants to keep hold of the Portugal captain this season.
Ronaldo is still linked with a move away from Man United as the summer transfer window approaches its end.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus star is keen to compete in the UEFA Champions League, a competition Man United cannot give him this season after the Red Devils finished in the sixth position on the Premier League table last season.
The report added that Serie A side Napoli are interested in signing Ronaldo.
Luciano Spalletti’s side are one of the biggest clubs in Italy and will participate in the Champions League this season.
However, there are different opinions at Man United regarding Ronaldo’s future.
It is clear that Ten Hag is fine with Ronaldo leaving the club.
The former Ajax coach has played Ronaldo from the bench in three of their last four Premier League games this season.
It could be assumed that Ronaldo has fallen behind the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Martial in the pecking order.
Glazer, meanwhile, wants Ronaldo at the club for the 2022-23 season as the 37-year-old is a valuable asset for Man United due to his marketability and other commercial matters.
